“All change is a miracle to contemplate, but it is a miracle which is taking place every instant.”

- Henry David Thoreau, Walden (Life in the Woods)

Welcome to my practice. My name is Dr. Jay Bosworth (he/him/his), and I am a New York State licensed Psychologist, providing individual and couples psychotherapy in-person in midtown Manhattan and across the state via telehealth. I am trained in treating individuals with psychodynamic psychotherapy and treating couples with Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

Working together may look like gaining insight into understanding how what is being experienced currently has its roots in your past. The overarching goal of this work is gaining clarity on patterns of relating, thinking, feeling, and behaving that once brilliantly protected you from other overwhelming thoughts or feelings, but are now likely leading you into a place of stuckness. To understand the impact and influence of your past provides an opportunity to heal from these “wounds,” as well as to begin showing up for yourself in a way that is more authentic to yourself through trying out new ways of relating to yourself and others.

Together, we can build a new narrative of your life that is more realistic and hopeful - one that compassionately makes sense of where you have been, where you are now, and where you are boldly going in the future.

I like to think of therapy as a process of someone coming to me, expressing that they want to remove the “dark stormy cloud” hanging over their head. Therefore, our work is about understanding the “geography” of your psychology, as it is the geography itself that informs the “weather” you experience in your mind and heart and ways of relating. From this understanding, we can begin “tera-forming” your mind to improve the weather you experience. And sometimes, this may look like learning how to not only “weather the storm” better, but also to target specific symptoms or bolstering specific skills to make the storm more tolerable.

I specialize in working with men, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, life transitions, identity issues, sexuality issues, anxiety and depression, and relationship matters (including issues related to being single, dating, marriage, family planning, and being heartbroken).

My therapeutic style is warm, direct, and collaborative. I strive to create a therapy space that is safe for you to share whatever may be on your mind, felt in your heart, or experienced in your body. Through slowing down, noticing and naming what is happening inside of yourself and within the therapy room, and translating the current moment into something workable, working together may become a means to health and grow to your fullest potential, with more flexibility and freedom in how you show up in your relationship with yourself and others, and how you move through the world.

I encourage you to contact me if any of this sounds resonate with what you are needing in a therapist. I very much look forward to speaking with you about what is bringing you to therapy and how I may be of help in achieving your goals.
